AKRON – July 30,2008
La Fuente Caliente /The Hot Source mourns the loss of a true gentle giant.
Ron Gangle, 67, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at his home.
Ron was born in Akron and retired from the Hoover Company of N. Canton after 28 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a graduate of BHS Class of '58 and was a well known local musician and DJ for over two decades.
Ron was and always will be a gentle giant. They don’t make men now-a-days like Ron.
He was a man of steel --- He was as tough as nails (A Navy Man) yet, he possessed wonderful qualities of compassion and empathy that allowed him to feel the pain of his fellow man, unlike many today.
I always admired him and looked up to him --- respected him enormously.
To me he was and always will be an “encyclopedia of knowledge” with legs, unlike any one I have ever encountered. I could pass hours and hours (in the recording studio at 91.3 FM) just listening to him share with me stories, details, facts and figures about his many travels throughout the U.S., things he encountered while in The U.S. Navy, or simply stories from his perspective about living life in and around Akron, back when Akron was a real city, not what it has become today. Ron could tell a good story among the innumerable other things that he did with expertise. He was always easy going and fun to be around --- with an infectious warm smile and personality.
He knew his music forward and backward, a true musician, magical on the accordion. Who can make sense out of playing an accordion? Not me. He made it look so easy. He would always stop in the (recording) studio and we would talk. He always had a kind word to share with me. He was and always will be a “class act”. He will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
We extend our most heartfelt prayers and condolences to his surviving family members, especially his wife Kaylene, a rare gem of a person as well.
